The Sartorialist

I am probably one of The Sartorialist’s biggest fans.

Having spent three of the most recent years of my career trend spotting for high street brands and luxury

Italian

fabric mills, I have used this as one of my bibles. As I know do so many others in the industry.

Such a simple tool to capture so well the chicest street style and small moments of natural chic from

the worlds fashion capitals.

The menswear is as significant to me as the womens.

I love the proportions, and the character and the theatre

brought about by personal styling. Some people, so unaware of just how ‘perfect’ they are looking, and how beautiful an

image they have created for others to appreciate.

I spied a coat of mine on there, worn by a lady whom I’ve never met, but who owns the family business Imarika

which is a beautiful fashion store in Milan. She has worn it with effortless style, and has attracted nearly 200 comments for this Sartorialist entry.

Grand National Winner for Petal Sculpt!!

What great news that my Petal Sculpt dress pulled top prize at the style awards for Ladies Day at Aintree last week. Thats a better result than winning any each way bet on the horses! Here’s the article from, plus a picture of the winner, Sophie Fairclough with Colleen. Always knew it was a favourite!

Fashion news….Suzannah ‘Petal Sculpt’ Dress wins Style Award at Aintree….

Journalism student Sophie Fairclough 20, from Formby, won the Style Award at Aintree at the weekend dressed in a striking silk emerald green dress by London based label Suzannah. She accessorized the dress with Christian Louboutin heels and a matching bag. (Judges included fashion legend Jeff Banks) Designer Suzannah Crabb said ‘Sophie looks amazing in my dress – she really deserved to win’.

Sophie won a new car, worth £12,000, a 10-day holiday to Barbados for two and a photoshoot at a top London studio as well as £200 to spend in Cricket and a goody bag from Benefit.

The stunned student said: “I’m so happy. I’m so shocked. “I put a lot of effort into getting ready for Ladies’ Day and had intended to enter the Style competition but I didn’t think that I would win’

The five finalists had been picked out of 1,900 entrants on Ladies’ Day by judges, Sheree Murphy, Emma Johnson, Ricky Whittle, Colin McAllister, Justin Ryan, Justine Mills and Lorraine McCulloch and designer Jeff Banks.

Banks said: “It’s almost got a retro 1950s look. “The emerald green colour is what everyone is predicting for 2011, so Sophie is ahead of the trend.”

The tulip petal sculpt that Sophie is wearing is from £385 and available in scarlet, champagne (pictured below) and black at http://www.suzannah.com

Welcome to our world of…frocks!

We felt it important to share our trend knowledge first and foremost, and as we spend (well Suzannah spends all her time) looking at dresses -well, not solely dresses, but art, furniture, film and vintage, which inspire the dresses that she creates. The blog’s ambition is to portray her discerning and passionate eye for the most unusual, admirable, collectable and desirable dresses and accessories around!

What better than to share your thoughts with those who are interested…?

French furniture from Howie and Belle – www.howieandbelle.com creates the most inspiring colour palette.

The raspberry red is the most saturated hot pink, which we will be using for Autumn Winter and Spring Summer too.

The intensity and depth of all the shades will make the palette wearable and have a real feeling of luxury.

The discovery of the site www.atelier-mayer.com

As we are the queens of everything vintage and because the majority of our dresses are based on either vintage couture, or vintage fabrics. This site, the discerning choice made by the founders Carmen Haid and Alice Kodell, and the amazing sophistication of the site itself inspired us on many levels. These are our site favourites below:

The Simple 60s shift with controlled, carved statement ruffles in the most fab turquoise blue is really inspiring our next high summer holiday palette, as it’s so flattering and against glossy white, feels so great to have fun optimistic, plastic brights again especially for SS10…

How great to be worn with bare legs, statement flats and the most amazing Perspex 60’s cuff.
